Edge Hill University, the University of the Year, is based on a stunning campus environment in Lancashire, close to Liverpool and Manchester.

The University has been providing higher education for 130 years, based on an ethos of opportunity through excellence. It was also named by the same publication as the Best University Workplace in its 2015 survey of staff at UK universities. The recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) results show the high quality and impactful nature of our research with World Leading Internationally Excellent or Internationally Recognised work across all areas.

The University is rated top in the North West for Overall Student Satisfaction across all 23 questions in the 2014 National Student Survey, and the top diversified university in the UK for Social Mobility, based on Edge Hill’s success in developing a broad range of students to achieve graduate jobs (Social Mobility Graduate Index 2014).

The last decade has seen investment of £250m on its campus which includes Creative Edge, a £17m media, music and computing facility and a £30m sports complex and it remains the safest campus in the region according to the Complete University Guide.

The University is an academic community comprising more than 10,000 full time undergraduate and postgraduate students, a further 6,000 on part time and professional development programmes and nearly 4,000 staff. Edge Hill also boasts strong levels of graduate employment, with 95.3% of full-time degree students finding work or further study within six months of graduating, which places the University in the top eight public universities in England (HESA 2014).

The Creative edge building which houses our 2 TV studios was built to support students studying media film and television.
The company who was awarded and selected from a tender process for this installation, was TSL.

Edge Hill University wanted to provide the best quality installation and equipment to support the student experience, and working with a service integrator that understood the needs of the university was paramount. We also required a design that aligns with the industry sector, so all equipment within our broadcast studio is industry standard. A key factor to running a broadcast studio is the support that underpins the customer’s needs, TSL have provided us with a tailored Service Level Agreement in support of the specialist technical knowledge that is required if things go wrong.

They have provided us with a single point of contact to manage any technical issues that may arise, a repository for all our documentation technical schematics and manuals held online via a secure login. This allows us to have status updates, and communication on any new software releases. We did have cause to use this service, when we had accidental damage to our Vision Mixer by an external contractor. TSL went above and beyond what our service level agreement stated. TSL sourced a vision mixing desk, provided an engineer next day for the temporary installation, and managed the whole repair process, and re-installation, this minimised the down time and the impact on the student experience, as the studio was booked the day after, for a student master class, with a well know industry soap director.
